My belief is that a delta E value that is discernably different, are different based on the specific color. Do you have a single Delta E value tolerance? Or is the tolerance different for each color?

The dE tolerance is critical since it determines when you have to stop the press and make adjustments as well as if your print buyer will accept the job. But, it is quite meanless that communicating dE tolerance internally or externally without defining which dE equation is used to calculate dE. The trend of the graphic arts industry is moving to dE2000 (a.k.a dE00 or dE2K). This equation is actually recommended by both ISO and IDEAlliance starting a few years ago. Just like most of the things in life, even the dE00 equation has its weakness in certain color area. That’s why we have seen some clients not only use dE tolerance, but also hue angles as requirements for neutral colors. This seems a lot to start with if you just started to integrating dE tolerance in your QC workflow. We suggest you contacting your print buyer or the brand owner to discuss what dE tolerance they normally use for their products.
